Smorgaschord 2024 begins with a bang! Mark Simpson, one of the UK’s most exceptional musicians, presents a concert of music for clarinet and electronics that will beguile as much as it will delight.

The concert features music by British composers written in the past 40 years, and it will be fascinating to explore the musical diversity of their work.

In the first of two pieces of Mark’s that he is playing at Smorgaschord this year, Darkness Moves is an evocation of ‘visceral, oftentimes frightening’ world of French poet Henri Michaux. Hearing the composer playing his own music in these surroundings will be a profoundly captivating experience.
